Divisions/Rules/Requirements
CHEER SAFETY GUIDELINES AND LEVEL RESTRICTIONS.
The
All Star Challenge follows the level breakdown and safety guidelines as
recommended by the National All Star Cheerleading Coaches’ Congress
(NACCC) and adopted by the United States All Star Federation. (USASF)
For most recent revisions please see www.nacccongress.com or
www.usasf.net
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Cheer Teams
1. Teams must have at least 5 members and no more than 36.
2. Total routine must be between 2 min and 2 min 30 seconds.
3. We suggest "all music" routines.
Dance Teams
1. Teams must have at least 5 members. There is no maximum limit.
2. Total routine may not exceed 2 min and 15 seconds.
3. Participants may compete in more than one dance division as long as they abide by the age restrictions in all divisions in which they compete and register as a crossover.
DANCE SAFETY GUIDELINES
TUMBLING
Only forward rolls, back rolls, and shoulder rolls are allowed. Individual back bends and handstands are permitted so long as they do not involve hip over head rotation (exception: Hip Hop stalls are allowed). No back handsprings, back tucks or aerials allowed.
DANCE LIFTS
Dance lifts are permitted and are defined as an action in which a dancer is elevated from the performance surface and set down. The lifting dancer must maintain direct contact with the performance surface at all times. The lifting dancer must maintain ultimate control over the momentum, positioning, changes in position and return to the performance surface of the lifted dancer through hand/arm to body contact. If the lifted dancer is supported by 2 or more people, rotation below the lifting dancer’s shoulders may occur. All cheer stunts and/or pyramids, or tosses are prohibited.
COSTUMING
Wearable items are allowed (Examples: Hats, sunglasses, gloves and jackets). Exception: Prop division-all props are allowed.
CATAGORIES
Jazz
• A jazz routine incorporates stylized dance movements and combinations, formation changes, group work, leaps and turns. Emphasis is placed on proper technical execution, extension, control, body placement and team uniformity with incorporated visual effects.
Pom
• Pom routines should include 75% use of pom elements.
• Routines in all pom Divisions will be judged primarily on the use of pom elements. Important characteristics of a pom routine include synchronization and visual effect, clean and precise motions, strong pom technique, and incorporate dance technical elements. Visual effect includes level changes, group work, formation changes, the use of different color poms, etc. Please note that pom is a style for All Star Challenge, not necessarily an apparatus.
Hip Hop
• Routines in all Hip Hop Divisions will be judged primarily on the use of funk hip-hop elements.
• Routines should feature street style movements with an emphasis on execution, style, creativity, body isolations and control, rhythm, ground work, uniformity and musical interpretation. Teams may also put an additional focus on athletic incorporations such as jumps, jump variations, combo jumps and other tricks.
Variety Team Performance
• Routines must encompass all styles of jazz, pom, and hip hop (see category descriptions above for additional definitions).
• Each style will be judged, however there is no minimum time requirement or 8 count requirement that teams must meet for completion of each style.
• Teams my incorporate costumes and a theme that is fully developed throughout the dance but not required.
• Hand held props and costuming may be used in this category, but are not required.
• Technical Skills (example: pirouettes/leaps) will be scored in the Technical Skill portion on the score sheet.
Crossovers
While we will make every effort to enable competitors to compete on multiple
teams, please note the following cross over policies.
1. We cannot guarantee more than a 20 minute separation between
competition times.
2. Warm-up times may overlap.
3. Award ceremonies may overlap with warm-up or competition times.
